Full Scorecard

Queensland have made it two wins from as many games in the Ryobi Cup, beating Tasmania by five runs at Harrup Park in McKay on Saturday.

Opener Ryan Broad hit a superb 92 to help the Bulls to 8-262 after they elected to bat first, and the Tigers were unable to overcome a slow start in their chase.

Ed Cowan (65) and Evan Gulbis (62) put on 90 for the fourth wicket, but Tasmania left themselves with too much to do.

Queensland paceman Alister McDermott (3-62) did the early damage with the ball.

He took the scalps of George Bailey (13) and Mark Cosgrove (one), while Ryan Harris (1-57) had Nick Kruger (four) trapped in front as Tasmania were reduced to 3-32 in their chase.

The middle and lower orders rallied through Gulbis, Matt Johnston (40), James Faulkner (33) and Jason Krejza (unbeaten 26).

But already five wickets down, they needed 91 runs off the last 10 overs to win.

Krejza tried hard but still needed 18 runs off the last over, which was bowled by Harris, and it proved too big an ask despite smashing two fours early in the over.

Earlier, Forrest won the toss and elected to bat, but he might have regretted his decision when Queensland were reduced to 1-1 and 2-43.

But Broad (92) and Nathan Reardon (unbeaten 74) steadied the innings before some late hitting from the latter guided them to a competitive total.

Tasmania quicks James Faulkner and Brendan Drew picked up three wickets each.

An aggressive Broad was vital after Andrew Robinson fell in the 11th over to leave the Bulls two wickets down, smashing seven fours and three sixes in his 120-ball knock.

He and Forrest added 69 for the third wicket before the captain fell, followed by Broad, leaving Queensland at 4-167.

But some late hitting from Reardon, who hit two fours and three sixes, and Bradley Ipson's 22 off 23 saw them set a challenging target.

It looked like Tasmania would keep the Bulls to a total below 250, but the Bulls smashed 48 from their last five overs to be in a strong position at the halfway point.

Paceman Ben Hilfenhaus took 2-51 from his 10 overs, while Krejza, opening the bowling, went wicketless and at a run-a-ball from his nine overs.

Faulkner (3-56) was on a hat-trick in the 41st over after removing Graeme Skennar (one) and Ben Dunk, but Ipson, who was forced to retire because of a leg muscle injury in the 47th over, safely saw the delivery away for a single.
