Bulls bury Blues at Manuka Oval

UPDATED 12 February, 2013 2:26PM AEST | by Adam Lucius, Omnisport

Queensland paceman Cameron Gannon has ripped through the NSW batting order to spearhead the Bulls' comfortable 30-run Ryobi Cup win at Manuka Oval.

Set 293 to win, the Blues were bowled out for 262 in the 48th over with Gannon (5-38) the chief destroyer.

The loss leaves NSW with just one win from four games while Queensland have three wins from five.

The Bulls were cruising towards a crushing win after reducing NSW to 8-179 in the 37th over.

A rearguard ninth wicket partnership of 81 between Josh Lalor (26) and Ben Rohrer (80) brought the hosts right back into the picture.

But when Gannon returned to remove Lalor with the score on 260, any hope of a miracle escape evaporated.

Top-scorer Rohrer was the last man out after belting 10 fours in an entertaining 60-ball innings.

Opener Scott Henry (65) was the only other batsman to make a solid contribution.

Earlier, NSW won the toss and elected to bowl in overcast and humid conditions but captain Stephen O'Keefe would soon rue that decision.

Queensland openers Usman Khawaja (85) and Chris Hartley (87) gave their side a rock-solid platform to build a big total, putting on 154 for the first wicket.

It took a run out in the 30th over to break the union, Khawaja colliding with paceman Lalor and falling to the ground before being caught short by a direct hit from Moises Henriques.

The left-hander, who collected 10 fours in his breezy 102-ball knock, stayed in the middle momentarily, hoping Lalor's involvement in the run out may be looked at by officials.

Pinch hitter Ben Cutting (39) and Hartley kept the momentum going following Khawaja's exit before a mini collapse ended the Bulls' hopes of a 300-plus total.

They lost four wickets in 20 balls before former New South Welshman Peter Forrest (23 not out) and Joe Burns (32) steadied things.

Henriques (3-67) was the pick of the bowlers but his good work was undone by a shaky batting performance from the Blues.
