Fury keeps finals hopes alive

UPDATED 06 February, 2013 10:13AM AEST | by Omnisport

The Western Fury kept their chances of reaching the Women's Twenty20 final alive with an eight-wicket win over the ACT Meteors on Friday.

Desperately needing a win at the Freebody Oval in Queanbeyan, the Fury restricted their visitors to 9-90 from their 20 overs after ACT had elected to bat.

Opener Jenny Wallace (unbeaten 49) led the way in the chase, with the Fury losing just two wickets to reach their target with 21 balls to spare.

The victory lifts the Western Fury above the ACT and into third on the table, equal on points with the second-placed Victoria Spirit.

Depending on results on Sunday, the Fury or the Spirit will face the New South Wales Breakers in the final.

After losing the toss, the Fury needed a good display with the ball and they got it, with the Meteors slumping to 5-38.

Aimee Harris (32), Kris Britt (15) and Sally Moylan (12) were the only ACT batswomen to manage double figures.

In an even bowling display, Renee Chappell (2-9 off four), Gemma Triscari (2-15 off four) and Nicky Shaw (2-16 off four) were the stars.

Emma Biss (1-9 off three) was the only other wicket-taker as the Fury dominated.

Despite losing Suzie Bates (19) with the score on 33 and Shaw (six), the hosts were untroubled thanks to Wallace, whose 52-ball knock included a four and two sixes.
