The 20th Imparja Cup has kicked off at Traeger Park in Alice Springs, with an opening exhibition match between the ACA Masters and the Black Caps.
The Black Caps – the best performed players from the 2012 Imparja Cup – won the toss and got off to a flyer, easily dismissing the Masters for 79 in 19 overs.
Queensland’s Jake Kubinek and Victoria’s Fletcher Stewart both took 3/12 with the ball, whilst Andrew Gordon from New South Wales also contributed with a handy 2/14.
The Master’s fought back when they took to the field, with Craig McDermott showing he’s still got it, taking the scalp of opener Michael Bailey for a duck. However soon the Black Caps found their groove, easily reaching the target, making 3/81 in 11.5 overs.
The Imparja Cup celebrates the best of Australia’s indigenous cricket talent annually in the Red Centre. What started 20 years ago purely as a means of settling the score between the cricketers of Alice Springs and Tennant Creek, is now nation-wide tournament, with over 500 men and women travelling to the heart of Australia, representing state, territory, regional and community teams.
Day one of the week-long tournament kicks off tomorrow in the Men’s State and Territory division:
