Australia A continue Lions misery

UPDATED 22 February, 2013 5:37PM AEST | by Omnisport

Australia A claimed an unassailable 3-0 lead in their one-day international series against the England Lions after another convincing win in Hobart on Friday.

The hosts were sent into bat at Blundstone Arena and put together a competitive 6-256 in their 50 overs, buoyed by half-centuries to Callum Ferguson (65) and Aaron Finch (57).

The tourists looked to be putting up a decent fight in earnest of a maiden win this tour when they were 2-94, but unlikely hero with the ball Finch (1-30) broke a 67-run stand between James Taylor (78 not out) and Gary Ballance (26).

The Lions collapsed dramatically, losing their final eight wickets for just 49 runs to slump to a 114-run loss - their third straight heavy defeat to Australia A after losses by 122 runs and seven wickets previously this trip, already sealing the five-match series for the home side.

Taylor's innings was the stand-alone highlight for the tourists, as the 23-year-old hit six fours and one six in his 82-ball knock.

Queensland paceman Alister McDermott was the best of the Australian bowlers, finishing with 3-32 off seven overs.

Spinner Cameron Boyce (2-27) and paceman Josh Hazlewood (2-23) were the other multiple wicket-takers, while Gurinder Sandhu and John Hastings also claimed scalps.

Earlier, South Australian batman Ferguson anchored Aus A's innings, making his 65 off just 64 balls but only hitting four boundaries in his time at the crease.

Left-arm orthodox spinner Simon Kerrigan (2-27 off 10) was impressive for the Lions, while Toby Roland-Jones, Stuart Meaker and Craig Overton picked up one wicket each.

Games four and five of the series will take place at the SCG on Monday and Friday respectively.

The Lions are yet to win on their trip down under so far, also losing two matches to Victoria and one to a Victorian XI side.
