Bird won't feature in India

UPDATED 21 March, 2013 10:12AM AEST | by Omnisport

Australian paceman Jackson Bird's Ashes preparation has taken a heavy hit after scans revealed a stress injury in his back.

The Tasmanian quick was sent home from India earlier in the week after suffering back soreness and will not be returning for any of the last three Tests after scans revealed what sounds like a serious injury for the 26-year-old.

"Initial tests performed in Melbourne have confirmed that Jackson Bird has a bone stress injury of the low back," said team doctor Peter Brukner.

"He will undergo further tests tomorrow (Thursday). He will not be re-joining the team in India."

The Australians are currently preparing for the second Test in Hyderabad after losing their first match of the series to India by eight wickets on Tuesday.
