Langer praises in-form duo

UPDATED 07 February, 2013 9:45AM AEST | by Daniel Colasimone, Omnisport

Justin Langer has sung the praises of in-form batsmen Shaun Marsh and Adam Voges after their 162-run fourth wicket stand put the Warriors in a strong position in the Sheffield Shield match against Queensland at the Gabba.

With Western Australia struggling at the lunch break on day two at 3-62, holding a lead of only five over Queensland's first innings total, the pair came together and batted their side out of trouble.

Both were dismissed late in the day, but the partnership helped Western Australia to an 183-run lead by stumps.

Langer, who has worked with both batsmen on some finer technical points since taking charge of the Warriors, said he was pleased with their performances in all forms of the game.

"They've played well. They were good for the Scorchers and for both to play for Australia together is a great credit to both of them," Langer said.

"Then they played well in the one-dayer the other night, and I think they compliment each other very well, left and right hander.

"And they've both played together for a very long time, they're both craving success for Western Australia as well so it's nice to see them doing well."

Voges, who was dismissed by James Hopes just before the conclusion of play on Tuesday for 72, was proving his worth as Warriors captain, Langer said.

"I've said for five years I think he's an excellent leader," he said.

"He's a terrific bloke and a good cricketer.

"He's done a good job so far, and that's what you expect from the captain."

Langer said Marsh, who made a classy 84, would always be a chance of making the Australian side as long as he doesn't lose focus.

"Shaun Marsh, every time he gets a few runs people ask whether he's going to play for Australia in Test Cricket," Langer said.

"I think if he keeps concentrating, as he did with the Scorchers, on just getting himself into playing good cricket, he'll make runs because he's so talented.

"If he keeps making good decisions on the field and off the field, he'll make runs.

"So if he concentrates on that, then I'm sure higher honours will come."
