Some of Australia’s brightest young cricket talents have been chosen for the 2012 Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) men’s scholarship program at the Cricket Australia Centre of Excellence (COE) in Brisbane this winter.
Cricket Australia’s National Selection Panel (NSP) announced the AIS squad that will undertake the program.

2012 AIS Squad Fast Facts
- The average age of the squad is 21.5 years.
- The program starts on 23rd May and will run to 14th July
- Seven scholars will be eligible to represent Australia at the U19 World Cup in August
- Seven Players have been selected to Tour the UK with Australia A
- Pat Cummins, Steve Smith and Mitchell Johnson have also been selected to represent Australia on the Tour of the British Isles
About The Program
All scholars in the squad will undergo a targeted and individualised development program at the COE at Allan Border Field under the guidance of new COE Head Coach Troy Cooley and his team of coaches including, David Fitzgerald, John Davison and Craig McDermott.
COE Sport Science and Sport Medicine staff will also be instrumental in delivering a high quality program to the selected athletes.
In addition, to further develop elite coaches in Australia, several state-based high performance coaches will also be involved in the COE program at various stages.
A player’s weekly schedule will include a combination of cricket skills training, game scenarios, strength and conditioning training, injury prevention strategies, nutrition, recovery, sport psychology and various sport science related activities, with player career and welfare courses also included.
