The 2011 Emerging Players Tournament turns to three-day mode today and Australia A quick Mitchell Starc has joined the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) squad in Brisbane adding some extra pace and experience to the group.

Starc just returned from Australia A duties in Zimbabwe last week, but after a few days of rest has flown to Brisbane to join the AIS squad for the longer format component of the tournament.

After finishing third on the table for the T20 matches, the AIS will be looking to turn things around across the three three-day matches, with the opening match today against New Zealand at Redlands in Brisbane.

On Thursday, the squad will fly to Townsville where they will play the second and third match of the three-day series at Endeavour Park, a first for the Emerging Players Tournament.

The facilities at Endeavour Park are brand new and after hosting the Australia A Series in 2009 and 2010, the Townsville community has shown they enjoy their cricket.

Cricket Australia Acting CEO Michael Brown said it was great to be able to take the tournament to Townsville in 2011.

“We are pleased to be able to also take this year’s tournament to Townsville. We feel it’s important to provide a variety of conditions for the development of the players and the new facilities at Endeavour Park with multiple grounds will provide teams with first-class services,” he said.
