New South Wales have been crowned the Cricket Australia Under-18 National Champions after defeating traditional rivals Victoria in the final.
It is the eighth straight year that New South Wales have taken home the Betty Butcher Shield and their performances throughout the tournament saw five of their players named in the Team of the Championship.
Queensland, who were unlucky to miss out on the main final, produced the Player of the Championship in Jemma Barsby. Barsby proved handy with the bat and ball in all forms of the game. One of her best performances came in her side’s 202-run win over Tasmania where she scored 153 runs, which was the highest ever individual score by a Queensland player at the Under-18 National Championships. Barsby also finished the tournament as the leading run-scorer, with a total of 268 runs at an average of 38.29.
South Australian off-spinner Alex Price was the leading wicket-taker of the Championship, claiming a total of 18 wickets at an average of 8.00.
Price’s teammate Bridget Patterson had the most dismissals by a fielder, with 11 stumpings and two catches behind the wickets.
Tasmania were honoured with the Spirit of Cricket award for the tournament.
