Fury pip cautious Scorpions

UPDATED 13 February, 2013 11:57AM AEST | by Omnisport

The Western Fury have defeated the South Australia Scorpions by four runs in the WNCL T20 with Nicole Bolton starring for the victors.

The Fury only scored 8-103 after winning the toss and batting first but kept South Australia to just 1-27 off their opening 10 overs, which left the Scorpions with too much work late in the match.

Bolton set up the Western Australians total with 37 off 35 deliveries at the top of the Fury's batting order, while Heather Graham added 19 crucial runs in the middle order.

Megan Schutt was the best of South Australia's bowlers with figures of 2-18 off her four overs, while Lauren Ebsary (2-19) also grabbed two scalps.

The Scorpions struggled to get going in Friday's T20 match, scoring just five runs in the opening three overs with Fury opening bowler Nicky Shaw producing a maiden in her second over.

SA's Bridget Patterson (three off 21) was simply too slow, opening the batting with Kate Oakenfold and was eventually out off the bowling of Emma Biss.

Oakenfold top scored for the Scorpions with 32 runs off 51 deliveries, while Biss (2-20) was the only multiple wicket-taker for the Fury.

South Australia scored 44 runs in the final five overs with Beth Morgan (20 off 17) and Schutt (21 off 16) getting the Scorpions back on track and within striking distance of victory.

But Piepa Cleary dismissed Tegan McPharlin on the final ball of the innings to hold on for a four-run win.
