The 2012 Allan Border Medal will be awarded on 27 February, 2012. Here is how the awards are calculated
The Allan Border Medal is awarded to the player who has received the most votes from his peers, umpires (domestic matches), match referees (overseas matches) and selected media representatives in Test, One-Day International and T20 International cricket over the past 12 months.
After each match, the individual player votes are tallied with a 3-2-1 vote cast. The votes of the umpires/match referees and media are combined with a collective 3-2-1- vote cast for the group. Under this system, the maximum votes any one player can receive is six.
Votes are weighted to reflect the varying number of Tests, One-Day International and T20 International matches that are played so that players have a fair chance to win the Allan Border Medal.
The voting period for the 2012 Allan Border Medal is 6 February 2011 to 24 February 2012.
Voting eligibility
Any player suspended by the ICC or Cricket Australia for an on-field indiscretion during the voting period is automatically disqualified from winning the Allan Border Medal. The player is also ineligible for the award in the form of the game in which he was suspended, but can win other awards.
