Australian grassroots cricket leaders come together with Cricket Australia and Cricket NSW

Cricket Australia (CA) CEO James Sutherland and Cricket NSW CEO David Gilbert will bring together Australian grassroots cricket leaders at Rooty Hill RSL on Saturday to outline the future of cricket in the first of 15 roadshows across the country over the next three months.

Saturday’s event will be the first in a series of roadshows designed to engage 2000 community cricket leaders around the nation, communicating to them their role in inspiring the next generation of fans and participants.

Mr Sutherland and Mr Gilbert will head an eminent array of presenters including Dr Harry Harinath (Cricket NSW Chairman and CA Director), Morris Iemma (Former NSW Premier), Moises Henriques (NSW SpeedBlitz Blue/Sydney Sixers) and Alex Blackwell (Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars/Lend Lease Breakers).

Set in Greater Western Sydney, Australia’s fastest growing area, community cricket leaders, club and association administrators from across NSW will join the two-day conversation about how cricket can inspire the next generation of players and fans.

“Cricket is in a strong position, holding an unrivalled presence nationwide through three unique forms of the game and a junior participation base that has increased significantly in recent years,” Mr Sutherland said.

“Through the roadshows, community cricket leaders nationwide get the chance to invest in the strategy for Australian cricket, ensuring cricket inspires the next generation of players and fans and entrenches itself as Australia’s favourite sport.”

“The continued success of cricket relies on the contribution of all its stakeholders – from grassroots to the elite – working together to make cricket a unified sport.”

The occasion will provide community cricket stakeholders the unique opportunity to share insight via specialised workshops with both CA and Cricket NSW about the current Australian cricket landscape.

In addition to sharing views on the various opportunities and challenges that face grassroots cricket, the event gives cricket’s community stakeholders the chance to understand the strategic plans of New South Wales and Australian cricket, which aim to unify Australian cricket from top to bottom.

The conference will run from 1.00-5.00pm at Rooty Hill RSL on Saturday, 26 May and 9.00am – 2.00pm on Sunday, 27 May. Attendance is by invitation only.
