WNCL set for big weekend of finals

UPDATED 10 January, 2013 3:33PM AEST | by Cricket Australia

The WNCL competition will culminate in a carnival of cricket in Sydney this weekend, with the top four finishing sides – the Lend Lease Breakers, Konica Minolta Queensland Fire, Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit and Western Fury – set to take part.

The top-of-the-table Lend Lease Breakers will face Western Fury in the first semi-final at Blacktown International Sportspark on Friday. The Breakers will be aiming for their eighth straight WNCL title and have had a dominant season, only dropping one match in the 50-over competition. This is only the second time the Fury have appeared in the WNCL finals, with the previous occasion being 1999-2000.

The second-placed Konica Minolta Queensland Fire will take on the Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit in the second semi-final, also at Blacktown International Sportspark on Friday. The Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit have competed in the WNCL final for the past four seasons, while it is the first time since 2005-06 that Queensland has qualified for the one-day finals.

Under the revised format, the victors from each semi-final will progress through to the final on Sunday 13 January at the SCG, with the remaining two teams playing off for third place on Saturday at Blacktown.

The WNCL Final on Sunday 13 January will be live streamed at http://www.cricket.com.au/video/live. Entry to all WNCL finals matches is free.

Squads for each match will be released by the respective state cricket associations.

All matches will be live scored on www.livescores.cricket.com.au, while you can also follow updates via Twitter: @CricNSWBreakers, @VicSpirit, @waca_cricket, @qldcricket, @_SouthernStars
