Ben Cutting has been added to Australia's one-day international (ODI) squad as cover for fast bowlers Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson ahead of Friday's series-deciding match in Brisbane.
Starc was left out of Australia's eight-wicket defeat in Adelaide on Sunday with a calf injury, while Johnson missed the loss due to a side strain.
Australia's chairman of selectors John Inverarity claimed on Wednesday Starc and Johnson should be right for the third match of the ODI series against Sri Lanka but Cutting has been brought in just in case.
Cutting took three wickets for the Brisbane Heat as they upset the Melbourne Renegades in Tuesday's Big Bash League semi-final.
While the Heat will be frustrated to potentially lose Cutting for the BBL final, Inverarity has made it clear the 25-year-old will be released in time if he is not required by Australia.
"Ben is here in Brisbane as a precaution due to Johnson and Starc coming back from injury," Inverarity said.
"If both pace bowlers prove their fitness to play as expected, Ben will re-join the Brisbane Heat on Friday afternoon for the Big Bash League Final."
