CA congratulates the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars after winning the ICC Women’s World Cup in India in the early hours of this morning, beating the West Indies by 114 runs.
The Commonwealth Banks Southern Stars are now World Champions in both formats after clinching the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 title in Sri Lanka late last year.
Cricket Australia’s Chief Executive James Sutherland commented on the win: "On behalf of Cricket Australia I would like to congratulate Jodie and the team on this brilliant achievement. It was a dominant performance tonight and they deserve all the accolades.
"This year's tournament proved to be one of the most competitive to date and was a wonderful showcase for the skill and class of women's cricket. It was fantastic that we were able to view it on TV and listen on the radio thanks to the support of two of our broadcast partners, FOX Sports and ABC Radio.
"This morning's win tops off a magnificent six months of cricket for the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars; to win back-to-back world championships in both formats is a remarkable accomplishment, and testament to the hard work and dedication the team puts in."
The Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars are supported by the Australian Government’s Women in Sport Media Grant program, which is designed to increase the profile of women’s sport through increased media coverage.
