Four players stood down in India

Shane Watson, Mitchell Johnson, Usman Khawaja and James Pattinson will not be eligible for selection for the third Test in the VB Tour of India, which starts on Thursday.

The decision follows the failure of the four to complete a team assignment which was set for the touring squad following the second Test in Hyderabad.

All players were asked by coach Mickey Arthur to map out a clear written plan for their individual approach to training and preparation for the next Test and the other 12 players in the touring group all completed this task.

The four players in question failed to do so and did not have an adequate explanation for failing to deliver the requested plan.

"We pride ourselves on attitude," explained Arthur.

"We have given the players a huge amount of latitude to get attitude and culture right. We believe that those behaviours were not consistent with what we want to do with this team.

"The teams that are the best in the world have best attitude, best behaviour patterns and a good hard ruthless culture.

"We've given an expectation that is spelt out and although this one incident might seem very small in isolation this is in fact a line in the sand moment for us, as a unit, in our quest to become the best in the world."

The four players will be available for selection for the fourth Test.
