Aussies take to the Thames for Ashes warm up

UPDATED 21 June, 2013 7:31AM AEST | by Cricket Australia

Five Australian cricketers visited one of the England’s most iconic locations overnight to help remind Aussie fans to join the Australian Cricket Family (ACF) for their chance to obtain priority access to tickets for the home Commonwealth Bank Ashes Series this summer.

With the Tower Bridge overhead Michael Clarke, Shane Watson, Chris Rogers, James Faulkner and Mitchell Starc took to the ACF Cricket Pitch on the Thames to help send a reminder to Australian fans who plan to support the team at home this summer.

Tickets to the Australian summer of International Cricket go on sale from 17 July, 2013 but Australian fans who register with the ACF before 25 June, 2013 will receive priority access and a discount on international tickets* before they go on sale to the general public.

While Clarke said the team’s immediate focus is the battle for the urn in England, he was excited about the unique prospect of a double Ashes Series and encouraged Australian fans to get behind the team this summer.

“There’s no doubt the Ashes is the greatest rivalry in cricket and to have two series in a year is a great opportunity for fans and players.  We’ve come to London aware of the huge challenge in the coming months,” Clarke said.

“I encourage all Aussie cricket fans at home to join the Australian Cricket Family to ensure they don’t miss out on tickets to the Commonwealth Bank Ashes Series in Australia.”

Rogers said he was equally excited to be part of the 16-man squad selected to represent Australia in England.

“It’s a real honour to be a part of an Ashes Series and we’ll do the very best we can to return the urn to Australian soil,” Rogers said.

“I hope the Australian public gets behind us and shows their support by joining the ACF. The ACF is the place where Australian cricket fans can receive great benefits, including priority access and a discount on international tickets, exclusive blogs from the team and best of all, it’s free to join.”

Australian residents have until 5.00pm (AEST), Tuesday 25 June 2013 to register with the Australian Cricket Family for their best chance to secure tickets to the 2013/14 Commonwealth Bank Ashes Series, Carlton Mid One Day Series and KFC T20 INTLS.  For more information or to register visit
