Captain fantastic Chris Rogers smacked a day one hundred for Middlesex in their top of the table clash against Sussex.

Rogers was dropped twice on three and 102 to finish unbeaten on 161, with his side closing on 3-320.

Sam Robson also returned to form with 58 before he was trapped LBW by leg-spinner Will Beer. The opening pair had put on 100 for the first wicket.

Steve Magoffin bowled a lively opening spell for the visitors, but he finished the day empty handed with figures of 0-51.

Surrey v Warwickshire 3-359 on Day one at Guilford

Ricky Ponting will be licking his lips at the prospect of batting on another road, but he'll have to wait to get his chance later in the match.

The first day belonged to Warwickshire, in particular England Lions opener Varun Chopra who ended up unbeaten on 187 not out overnight. The Bears closed on 3-359.

Northamptonshire 4-100 v Worcestershire 196 (Copeland 3-51) on Day one at Northampton
