"The man other bowlers want to be and batsmen want to see the back of"

If most would agree that Alastair Cook is going to end up as England's greatest Test run scorer, then there is an even better chance that Jimmy Anderson is going to end up on top of the wickets pile by the time he is done.

From a one day debut of huge promise against Australia as a 20-year-old, Anderson has developed into the finest exponent of fast swing bowling since Wasim Akram. His trademark delivery angles in with a hint of swing, hits the seam and then clips the off stump. It is unplayable as several Australian batsmen can testify.

It hasn't been easy though, left out of the side on a regular basis between 2003-08 and with a broken back for his troubles too. But he has become the undisputed leader of England's attack, full of aggression, skill and wicket taking brilliance. Off the field he is more softly spoken with a sharp wit. His double act with Graeme Swann has kept the smiles on England player's faces for years now, while a love of golf and indie music keep him entertained on tour. A Lancashire lad through and through, he even petitioned the local council in the club's bid to redevelop their ground into the one that hosted an Ashes Test earlier this year.
