RYOBI Cup to launch Aussie season

UPDATED 13 September, 2013 3:29PM AEDT | by Cricket Australia 16

School holidays are fast approaching and it’s nearly time for the start of a bumper summer of cricket with Cricket Australia (CA) today confirming the RYOBI One Day Cup match start times and free entry to all matches for fans 18 years and younger.

The RYOBI Cup launches in 16 days on Sunday 29 September with host state New South Wales taking on Tasmania from 9.30am at Bankstown Oval.

The first three scheduled matches on 29 September, 1 and 4 October will begin at 9.30am and fall in the second week of the school holidays. Matches will then begin at 10.00am following the start of daylight saving in NSW from 6 October onwards.

Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manager Operations Mike McKenna said: “The first three RYOBI Cup matches will fall in the second half of the school holidays and will include Australian ODI squad members prior to their departure on 5 October for a limited-overs tour to India.

“Fans 18 years and younger will be able to get in for free at all RYOBI Cup matches and watch their favourite players up close. Fans from all around Australia will be able to cheer on their teams from home with all 15 matches at Bankstown, North Sydney Oval and the final broadcast live and in HD on the Nine Network via Channel GEM.

“The match between New South Wales and Victoria on Monday 7 October will fall on a public holiday and will be a fun, cheap day out for families at one of Australia’s most picturesque grounds Bankstown Oval.

“Following the public holiday, there will be a big weekend of cricket on 12 and 13 October, including last year’s RYOBI final re-match between Queensland and Victoria on the Sunday at North Sydney Oval. Queensland are the reigning RYOBI Cup champions after they snatched 3 wickets for 2 runs to claim an improbable two-run victory in the 2012-13 final.

“Our RYOBI Cup venues at Bankstown, North Sydney, Hurstville, Blacktown International Sports Park and Drummoyne will provide a great community atmosphere and we encourage all cricket fans to get to a match to watch many of our states’ best one day players in this exciting tournament.

“As we approach the 2015 Cricket World Cup, this tournament-style competition has been designed to best prepare our cricketers to challenge for World Cup victory,” Mr McKenna said.

Tickets for adults will be $10 and available for purchase at the gate.

All matches at Bankstown Oval and North Sydney Oval will be shown live and in HD on the Nine Network via Channel GEM.
