Profile

After breaking into the Test side in 2012, Matthew Wade now finds himself on the fringes of national selection.

With Brad Haddin back in the side as Michael Clarke’s deputy, the 26 year old will need to rediscover the form that got him there in the first place.

A talented player all his life, Wade earned his first international cap for the T20 side on the back of outstanding domestic form for Victoria.

Wade finally got his chance to debut at Test level when Australia travelled to the West Indies. It was a terrific tour for the keeper, whose 106 was the only century scored by an Australian all series.

Wade backed up his breakthrough ton with 68* against South Africa, and another 68 against the touring Sri Lankans.

An unbeaten century against Sri Lanka looked to have cemented his spot in the Test side, but an unflattering tour of India forced selectors to recall Haddin.

His form in ODI’s and T20 has been solid, with the Victorian excelling for both state and country. Able to bat anywhere in the order, Wade is a valuable asset to have no matter the situation.

With six first-class hundred to his name, Wade will need to knuckle down for the Bushrangers if he wants to steal back his spot in the side.

He has already shown what he can do on the domestic scene, with season tallies of 677 and 553 in the Shield, while also finishing second leading run getter in the Ryobi Cup.

The dashing batsman probably needs to grind out a couple of meaningful knocks if he wants to remind selectors of his worth.

With 254 first-class dismissals to his name, Wade is no slouch behind the stumps. He already has 36 in Tests, 44 in ODI’s and 10 in t20’s.

Currently on tour with the Australia A squad, Wade knows that consistency is the only way he can win back his coveted Test spot.
