Smith signs on for WBBL|01

Young spinner Lauren Smith will wear pink in WBBL|01

Lauren Smith is the latest player to put pen to paper with the Sydney Sixers, becoming the fourth player confirmed for the club’s inaugural Women’s Big Bash League squad.

The 19-year-old spinner is one of the brightest young talents coming through the women’s ranks in New South Wales, and made her debut for the Lend Lease Breakers last season.

She made an immediate impact in her first game, starring with figures of 4-35.

Sixers WBBL coach Ben Sawyer said Smith was a great student of the game, who would make an impact for the Sixers in WBBL|01.

“Lauren is a very talented off spinner who is eager to ask questions and learn from those around her,” Sawyer said.

“The results of this willingness to listen and learn have been really evident during her short time with the Breakers.

“She has been able to face the challenges that have been placed in front of her and is short to play a massive role in the Sixers this season.”

Smith said she was excited to have signed with the Sixers for the first ever BBL season.

“It’s really good to be with the Sixers, they’re one of my favourite teams in the BBL,” Smith said.

When discussing where her love of cricket came from, Smith pointed to her family as the reason behind her decision to play cricket.

“When I was growing up I was playing backyard cricket with my brother and my dad and that’s when it all started at the age of seven, playing local cricket in my local area.”
