Ervine ton seals series for Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe claim their first ODI series in more than two years

An undefeated century from Craig Ervine has led Zimbabwe to a five-wicket victory over Ireland and their first series win in more than two years on Sunday.

Ervine shared a key 98-run third-wicket stand with Sean Williams, blasting nine fours and two sixes on his way to 101 not out, as Zimbabwe shared down 269 with nine balls to spare to take an unassailable 2-0 series lead.

Earlier, Ireland were sent in by the hosts and scored 7-268 led by opener Paul Stirling, who made a rapid 72 off 77 balls.

Gary Wilson and Niall O'Brien both scored half-centuries, while paceman Sikandar Raza was the pick of the bowlers as he took 3-49, including the wickets of O’Brien and Stirling.

Zimbabwe's last ODI series win was against Bangladesh in May, 2013.

The third and final game will be played at the Harare Sports Club on Tuesday.
