BBL wrap: Stoinis headlines latest signings

Big-hitting allrounder back in green for BBL|10 while Thunder complete their roster with a fit-again young 'keeper-batsman

Melbourne Stars will again have the services of KFC BBL|09's Player of the Tournament, with Australia allrounder Marcus Stoinis re-signing with the franchise.

Stoinis, who overnight played in Delhi Capitals' IPL final defeat to Mumbai Indians, has signed a multi-year contract extension that will see him at the Stars until the end of the 2023-24 season.

Stoinis is the club's all-time top run-scorer with 1,739 at 39.34 with a strike-rate of 129.76, and last summer smashed a Big Bash record 147no from 79 balls against the Sydney Sixers.

"I'm excited about what we can achieve in the future and I'm grateful for the belief the club has shown in me," Stoinis said. "This team is an important part of my life each year."

The news follows Monday's announcement that England World Cup winner Jonny Bairstow has signed with the Stars and is due to join up with the squad after Christmas.

The Melbourne side, who are still to taste title success, have also acquired young batting gun Will Pucovski and former Adelaide Strikers quick Billy Stanlake.

Sydney Thunder meanwhile have rounded out their roster with the recruitment of former local replacement player Baxter Holt, who played two matches for the franchise in BBL|08 but has not appeared since, after suffering a debilitating back injury.

The 21-year-old 'keeper-batsman smashed 37 from 28 balls on his BBL debut two summers ago and has also appeared in one Marsh Sheffield Shield match for NSW.

"We always had our eye on Baxter because we think he's going to be a very fine player," said Tunder coach Shane Bond. "He's had some injury problems with his back, but he's fit again.

"With what Baxter showed at Big Bash level a few years ago, we know he's got some real potential and we're very excited to have him in the squad."

In other BBL news, the Strikers have re-signed big-hitting Englishman Phil Salt, while Hobart Hurricanes have picked up former Strikers and Proteas batter Colin Ingram.
