Hat-trick, triple, double tons adorn county games

Former South Australian seamer Daniel Worrall enjoyed a career-best match as Kyle Abbott took a hat-trick for Hampshire and Cheteshwar Pujara smashed a double ton in another high-scoring County Championship round

Former South African quick Kyle Abbott has taken a hat-trick to keep Hampshire in the County Championship title hunt behind division one leaders Surrey.

Abbott's heroics in a haul of 6-76 helped second-placed Hampshire to a six-wicket win over Gloucestershire at Cheltenham on Friday.

Bottom-of-the-table Gloucestershire were dismissed for 337 in their second innings, with Miles Hammond having made a career-best 169.

Abbott made his decisive intervention either side of the lunch interval by ending Hammond's marathon near six-hour stint, and then returning after the break to remove Zafar Gohar and Tom Price in successive deliveries.

Hampshire, needing 82 for victory, reached their target in 9.3 overs for the loss of four wickets.

But Surrey are still 14 points clear at the top after completing a six-wicket win over Essex at the Oval, with third-placed Lancashire 31 points adrift of the leaders after beating Northamptonshire by four wickets.

Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara (231) smashed a double century in Sussex's drawn division two clash with Middlesex at Lord's, while Victorian quick James Pattinson got the best of WA's Hilton Cartwright in another high-scoring draw between Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
