Osborne content with retirement despite stellar form

The ACT Meteors off-spinner is ready for a move into coaching as she nears the end of her fantastic international and domestic career

Erin Osborne may have already called time on her Weber WBBL career and be in her final WNCL season, but the ACT Meteors off-spinner proved today she is bowling as well as ever as the curtain begins to close on her stellar career.

The 32-year-old delivered figures of 4-15 from 7.2 overs in her side's dominant victory against Victoria at Junction Oval on Friday, ripping through the Vics' lower order after Zoe Cooke had already taken care of the batters at the top.

But despite her current good form, Osborne won't be tempted by one more season, saying after the match this would be her final WNCL after already announcing her retirement from the Melbourne Stars at the completion of WBBL|07.

Meteors bowlers set up comfortable win

"This is definitely it," Osborne said of a potential extension on her career.

"I don’t feel like I'm bowling any better than I have in previous years, it was just one of those days where things fell my way."

Having played her final international match for Australia in 2016, finishing with 121 wickets across all formats, the off-spinner has continued to be a force in domestic cricket over the past six years, namely for the Melbourne Stars and earlier the Sydney Thunder in the WBBL.

But while she remained determined to finish her season with the Meteors strongly, having picked up their first win today after a tough loss and washout against NSW earlier in the campaign, Osborne has her sights set on a career in coaching and already has her foot in the door within ACT cricket.

"Obviously finishing off this season with the ACT Meteors (is front of mind)," she said.

"I still have my current role as male pathways manager of Cricket ACT and I'm just looking for more professional development opportunities with the coaching.

"I'm still learning and am very lucky to be well supported by Cricket ACT."

Now on the winners' list, the Meteors will look to their next match against Tasmania on March 9, where they'll be hoping to continue on from their strong showing against Victoria.

"I think with the start we had to our WNCL campaign it's nice to turn around and put in a better performance with our bowling and fielding," Osborne said.

Double blow for Vics with early mix-up

"We'll fly home tomorrow, we'll review this match, there's still a few things that we need to clean up," Osborne said.

"Our fielding, we started well and probably fell away a little bit and then out batting to lose those last couple of wickets at the end was disappointing not to finish that run chase off.

"A few things to work on but looking forward to getting home."
