'I'll be in': Finch plays down injury fears

Injured captain, sidelined with a hamstring injury, seemingly tweets his availability for World T20

With just four little words, Australia's T20 captain Aaron Finch seemingly allayed any fears that he would miss the upcoming World T20 in India.

Finch missed the final match of the KFC T20 INTL series against India due to the hamstring injury he picked up in Melbourne on Friday night, putting his participation in the month-long tournament in doubt.

During Sunday night's television coverage of game three in Sydney, Wide World of Sports commentator Mark Taylor speculated that Finch would miss the tournament and offered that Australia needed to find an alternative to open the batting.

But Finch was quick to dismiss that theory, turning to Twitter to seemingly confirm he'd be fit for the tournament.

And if we needed any further clarification, this came just a few minutes later:

Australia's 15-man squad for the World T20 in March and April will be announced by February 11 and Cricket Australia confirmed on Saturday that the captain for the tournament would be announced when the squad is revealed.

The full extent of Finch's injury has not yet been confirmed, but team medical staff are confident that it was not a recurrence of the injury he suffered to the same hamstring during the Indian Premier League last April.

Finch required surgery on that occasion and was out of action for several months.

The Victorian remained in Melbourne after Friday's match for scans and while he's already been ruled out of the upcoming one-day international series in New Zealand, starting on Wednesday, his return date has not yet been announced.

Australia coach Darren Lehmann said he expected further news on the extent of the injury in the next 48 hours.

"We're just waiting on the medicos to give us an update in the next few days," Lehmann said in Sydney today, adding Australia was close to finalising its World T20 squad.

"There's obviously a couple of spots up for grabs but we're pretty close to where we want to go and how we go about it," the Bupa Support Team Head Coach said.

"And we're giving a good chance to see some young guys at next level after really good BBL performances. That's really important for the future as well."

Finch is one of several opening batsman at Australia's disposal for the sixth World T20, with the identity of the opening batsmen for the tournament sure to create headaches for Australia's selection panel.

Shane Watson put his hand up with a century at the top of the order at the SCG on Sunday night, while the likes of David Warner, Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh also have strong claims on an opening spot.
