Finch on the mend after surgery

Batsman aiming to return in time to play county cricket with Yorkshire

Aaron Finch says his recovery from hamstring surgery is going well, with the batsman expecting to be back to playing cricket in eight weeks.

Finch, who injured his hamstring while attempting a quick single during Mumbai Indians’ IPL match against the Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad, underwent surgery to repair the damage.

The right-hander said he was disappointed to be only watching the tournament from his home in Melbourne and not featuring in it.

"The tendon pulled off the bone unfortunately,” Finch told iplt20.com.

"I have been lying on the couch watching the IPL, but I wish I was out there [playing].

"I have been able to take the dog for one walk. The hamstring's feeling good after the surgery and the surgeons are really hopeful I will be back in about eight weeks."

Finch said it was the first time he had missed a cricket game due to injury.

"It certainly was the most painful injury I have had in cricket. I have never missed a game to an injury.

“I knew something was wrong and unfortunately it had to be at this stage of the IPL when we were looking to get off to a good start in the tournament.

"Very disappointing but I suppose I have got through 10 years of the game injury-free, so that's been a positive."

Finch, who averaged 48.5 for Yorkshire last year, is now undergoing rehabilitation with an aim of getting fit in time to feature for the same team later this county season.

"Hopefully I should be fit again in eight weeks and play some county cricket for Yorkshire,” he said.

“Until then there's a lot of rehab and spending time with the physio, and it's quite boring stuff. It's very rare that we get some time off to sit at home and not do stuff.

"I am starting to get itchy feet already. I want to get out and train and play and get ready to go again."
