Finch could miss rest of the season

Australian batsman suffers another injury setback, Glenn Maxwell could replace him at Yorkshire

Aaron Finch's torrid run with injury has continued with Yorkshire confirming the hard-hitting right-hander could miss the rest of the English county season due to a foot problem.

Finch missed Sunday's loss to Derbyshire after he underwent scans on a foot injury he suffered during Friday's match against Durham.

Yorkshire says while the extent of the injury is yet to be confirmed, the initial diagnosis isn't positive.

"In a worst-case scenario, it could be the end of the season for him," said Yorkshire's director of cricket Martyn Moxon.

"It’s not looking great; he’s had a scan and, from an initial reading of that scan, it looks as though there’s some kind of a stress reaction.

"We’re going to get another reading on it and, hopefully, a conclusive diagnosis, but it looks as though Finchy could be out for a while.

"He set off to run for a ball in the field on Friday, and he felt a little crack in his foot; he must have had his weight at the wrong angle, or something."

Moxon confirmed Finch's state and Australian teammate Glenn Maxwell would replace the opener in the squad if indeed his season is over.

Finch has had a run of misfortune since he was part of Australia's triumphant World Cup campaign, missing the bulk of the Indian Premier League due to a serious hamstring injury.

Having undergone surgery, he returned to action with Yorkshire in June but a few weeks later was taken to hospital for x-rays after he was struck on the chest during a second XI match south of Birmingham.

He recovered from the blow and made his first-class return late last month, scoring an unbeaten 73 against Warwickshire last month.
