Finch fit for County return

Finch returns to Yorkshire for remainder for County cricket season after run of injuries

Australia batsman Aaron Finch has returned to the United Kingdom to resume his County cricket season after recovering from a foot fracture.

Finch has experienced a horror run of injuries since helping Australia capture their fifth World Cup title earlier this year.

The 28-year-old underwent surgery on his hamstring in April after snapping the tendon in his left leg.

Shortly after making his county return, Finch was struck a nasty blow in a match for the Yorkshire Second XI and was forced to retire hurt after spitting up blood, but two sets of scans cleared the hard-hitting right-hander of any serious damage.

Finch’s latest task was to continue his recovery from a fractured foot – sustained while playing a T20 match in July.

The opening batsman was not part of the 14-man squad named to take on England in six one-day internationals and one Twenty20 next month, but will be able to play the remainder of the season with Division One reigning champions Yorkshire.

Quick single: Finch says fitness to blame for ODI omission

He will replace Australia teammate Glenn Maxwell at the County side, with the allrounder set to join up with the Australian ODI squad.

“I have had a frustrating time with injuries over the last few months but I have worked hard on my rehab and am delighted with my progress,” Finch told yorkshireccc.com.

“I look forward to catching up with the boys later this week and am determined to contribute strongly in the coming weeks.”

New Zealand batting star Kane Williamson had been contracted to replace Finch for the final month of the County season after Maxwell’s departure, but will now not appear for Yorkshire.

Meanwhile, Maxwell scored 43 on day one of Yorkshire's clash with Sussex at Hove on Friday.
