"It’s a great honour to win this award. Something I’m very proud of," Voges said.

"I guess after Marcus North winning the award last year, to be able to follow that up and have another West Australian win the award, it’s a great honour."

Amassing 1,215 runs across 10 matches, Voges’ prolific season includes five centuries and a career-best 249 against the West End Redbacks in Adelaide.

The right-hander started the summer with a composed 79 against Tasmania in Perth, before reaching triple figures for the first time against the same opposition a fortnight later in Hobart.

Voges then hit twin tons against tomorrow’s rivals in a heavy loss at the WACA in what would be the Warriors’ last loss of the season.

Capped 31 times at one-day international level, Voges is 292 runs adrift of Simon Katich’s record of 1,506 runs in a single Shield season, set in 2007-08 for NSW Blues, but needs only 40 more to surge in to fourth spot behind left-handed trio Katich, Michael Bevan (1,464) and Matthew Elliott (1,381).
