Adelaide strike deal with veteran quick

Victorian set to ply his trade in the city of churches this summer

Adelaide Strikers have added veteran speedster Peter Siddle to their roster for BBL|07, the club announced today.

Siddle, who has played 62 Tests since his debut in 2008, will link up with former Australia quick and Strikers coach Jason Gillespie in Adelaide after missing all of last summer’s KFC Big Bash League due to a back injury.

"Just getting back out playing, that's the thing I've missed so much," Siddle said.

"The injury has been tough, but I think that time off might have just given me a new lease of life and some longevity at the back-end of my career.

"Getting those early games in for Victoria at the start of the season and then getting over into the Big Bash for the Strikers will hopefully propel me up the ranks and get me back into the Australian side."

Siddle moves to Adelaide from Melbourne, where he played seven games in in two seasons (BBL|04 & 05) for the Renegades.

The 32-year-old will undoubtedly bring a wealth of experience to the Strikers, an aspect that excites coach Gilespie.

"We feel we’ve just got a great coup in Siddle and he adds considerable depth," Gillespie said.

"He’s also a great guy and we’re really looking forward to him playing an important role in the next few years.

"We’ve got a bowler with experience, not huge in T20 but we feel he’s got the transferable skills and his presence around the team is something that you can’t really put a measure on."

Siddle sends Reardon packing

Siddle joins an impressive fast bowling brigade in Adelaide, with towering CA contracted quick Billy Stanlake, BBL all-time leading wicket-taker Ben Laughlin, allrounder Michael Neser and young gun Wes Agar already on the books.

The Strikers have also secured the services of hard-hitting South African allrounder Colin Ingram, while Afghan teen sensation Rashid Khan has been linked to the club.
