Batsman pleads guilty to showing dissent after his dismissal in the fourth ODI against India
Du Plessis fined after Proteas ODI defeat
South Africa batsman Faf du Plessis has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee following Thursday's fourth one-day international against India in Chennai.
The International Cricket Council said du Plessis had been found guilty of "showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match", following his dismissal for 17 during South Africa's 35-run loss to India.
The charge, which was laid on Du Plessis by the on-field umpires S.Ravi and C.Shamsuddin, and third umpire AK Chaudhary, came after he angrily gesticulated at being given out caught behind off the bowling of Axar Patel in the 15th over of South Africa's chase.

The batsman was on 17 when he looked to cut Patel but only managed to nick it behind to the keeper. The bowler and the keeper went up in a spontaneous appeal which the umpire upheld, much to the chagrin of du Plessis. It was later also revealed on replays the ball had indeed gone off the edge of the batsman's bat.

"The incident happened in the 15th over of South Africa’s run-chase when du Plessis showed obvious dissent by raising his right hand after being declared caught behind off Axar Patel," the ICC said in a statement.
"Following the match, which India won by 35 runs, du Plessis admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Chris Broad of the Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees," the ICC said in a media release.
"As such, there was no need for a formal hearing."
South Africa's batsmen, with the exception of captain AB de Villiers, struggled chasing India's 8-299, managing only 9-264 in reply despite de Villiers' heroic 112 off 107 balls.
