Redback Ross fined for dissent

South Australia batsman fined for reaction after dismissal against NSW Blues

West End Redbacks batsman Alex Ross has been fined by Cricket Australia following Thursday's match against NSW Blues at North Sydney Oval.

Ross was trapped lbw by Blues bowler Sean Abbott for 13 from the first ball of the 21st over in South Australia's innings.

When the decision was given, Ross lingered for a moment and glanced down the wicket at Umpire Greg Davidson before leaving the middle.

Ross was reported for breaching article 2.1.3 of Cricket Australia's Code of Behaviour - showing dissent at an umpire’s decision when he was dismissed - and match referee Peter Marshall considered the written report from the on-field umpires before offering Ross a reprimand and a fine of 20 per cent of his match fee.

Ross accepted the sanction, meaning no hearing was required.

The 23-year-old is the second player to be reprimanded during this year's Matador BBQs One-Day Cup.

Western Australian opener Shaun Marsh was reprimanded for failing to wear a helmet compliant with Cricket Australia’s new State Equipment and Apparel Regulations during Monday's match at Hurstville Oval.
