Healy taking tips from injured Starc

The Australia quick is providing Alyssa Healy with some advice ahead of the World Twenty20 in India

Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars veteran Alyssa Healy has been in discussions with boyfriend and Australian bowler Mitchell Starc about what conditions to expect at the World Twenty20 in India.

While Starc has never represented Australia in Twenty20 cricket on Indian soil, the injured quick has played plenty of Test and one-day cricket on the sub-continent and has also played with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.

Playing cricket in India is a relatively new experience for Healy and the 25-year-old admitted to asking Starc for a few tips on the conditions she should expect to face during the upcoming tournament.

"I have had a few discussions with him about different grounds over here and what they play like," Healy said.

"It's nice to be able to swap notes like that.

"He has only had a bit of experience over here, but it is nice coming from a bowlers point of view to see where they may target."

Healy is one of many options the Stars have to open their innings in India, with head coach Matthew Mott opting to use Beth Mooney and Nicole Bolton at the top of the order during the recent Twenty20 series against New Zealand.

However, Healy has opened in the past and would love another chance to prove herself early in the innings.

"I am not sure, you will have to ask the selectors," Healy said when asked if she is likely to open in India.

"I have done a lot of top order batting in the BBL and in the past for Australia.

"If that is where they want to go I am more than willing to put my hand up and do that, but there are plenty of other options as well."

The Stars are among the favourites to win the World Twenty20 title in India and Healy knows what part of their game they need to improve if they are to lift the trophy.

"Our batting has probably let us down in the last few tours in the T20 format," Healy admitted.

"I think they (coaching staff) are potentially looking at what they can do and what changes they can make to make sure we are making enough runs as our bowling has been really good."

The Stars have a warm-up game against the West Indies on Monday, before their first match of the tournament on Friday against South Africa.
