Tye stretchered off with shoulder injury

Perth Scorchers quick taken from field during IPL clash after suffering left shoulder injury in Rajkot

Australian death-bowling specialist Andrew Tye appears to be in doubt for the rest of the Indian Premier League after he was stretchered off the ground midway through Gujarat’s match against Mumbai Indians with a left shoulder injury.

In an incident reminiscent of the injury suffered by countryman Chris Lynn earlier in the tournament, Tye appeared to be in serious pain after falling on his shoulder diving for a ball in the field.

With Mumbai at 2-82 chasing of the hosts’ 153, Parthiv Patel struck one to Tye’s right at deep mid-wicket. The fast-bowler made good ground in pursuit of the firmly hit stroke, managing to get his right hand on to the ball as he dived forward in his attempt to save a boundary.

But as the ball rolled away for four, Tye clutched his left shoulder and appeared to be in severe discomfort.

The 30-year-old was attended to by the Gujarat physio and the Lions’ Australian coach Brad Hodge, before being stretchered off the Rajkot ground.

Lynn suffers another shoulder injury

It’s not the first time Tye has hurt his left shoulder, having dislocated it while fielding for Scraborough in a Perth Premier Cricket match in December.

Scans revealed minor structural damage in that instance but he recovered in time to be a key figure in the Perth Scorchers KFC Big Bash League-winning campaign.

Gujarat captain Suresh Raina later said he hadn’t received an update on Tye’s health, but admitted losing the quick who still had three overs to bowl had been a blow as the Lions lost a thrilling game in a Super Over.

Tye had earlier shown his wares with the bat, striking an important cameo of 25 off 12 balls. He had conceded nine from his only over.

Tye's debut the best in IPL history

Having sat on the bench for the two preceding seasons of the lucrative tournament, the Western Australian had an IPL debut to remember earlier in the competition.

He completed a hat-trick against Pune and finished with 5-17 from his four overs in a match-winning effort, and currently sits equals third on the IPL leading wicket-takers list with 12 scalps from just six games.
