Dinda picks up unwanted IPL record

Hardik Pandya clobbers 30 runs from the final over of Mumbai's innings against RPS

Of all the records David Hussey accumulated in his long and decorated career, this is one he'll be happy to give up.

Report & Highlights: Smith leads RPS to thrilling win

The Australian's shared Indian Premier League record for the most runs conceded in the final over of an innings, the 27 he was hit for in a match against Mumbai four years ago, was eclipsed overnight by the 29 runs plundered off Ashok Dinda's bowling in Pune.

Dinda, a right-armer for the Rising Pune Supergiant who has been capped 22 times by India, conceded four sixes, a four and a wide from his final over, with a bye from the last delivery moving the total for the over to 30 and helping Mumbai Indians reach 8-184 (watch highlights below).

The 29 runs Dinda conceded off his bowling is the most in the last over of an IPL innings and the equal-fifth most overall in the competition's history.

Incredibly, three of the top six most expensive final overs in the IPL belong to Dinda; he also conceded 26 runs in an over in 2011 and then again in 2013.

Mumbai Indians allrounder Hardik Pandya was the man who took to Dinda overnight; having started the over on 9 not out, the right-hander finished unbeaten on 35 from just 15 balls after a stunning show of power hitting.

Pandya started the over with three consecutive sixes - over cover, long off and long on - before he got a thick edge to the third-man boundary to make it 22 runs from the first four balls.

He then clubbed another six over long-on before Dinda pushed one too wide of the off-stump, conceding a wide that meant he still had one delivery to come.

Mercifully for him and Pune, Pandya somehow missed a low full toss from the final ball, although he scampered a bye to bring the total runs conceded in the over to 30.

And while Dinda copped some punishment, his RPS skipper Steve Smith dished out some of his own to steer his side to a seven-wicket victory.

Dinda finished his four-over spell with figures of 0-57, well short of the IPL record 66 runs conceded by Ishant Sharma in the 2013 tournament, the most in a four-over spell by any bowler.

While the 29 runs off Dinda's bowling was the most in the last over of an innings, it was also short of the all-time IPL record of 37 runs conceded by left-armer Prasanth Parameswaran in 2011.

Unsurprisingly, West Indian master blaster Chris Gayle was the man who took to Parameswaran on that occasion, hitting four sixes and three fours off a seven-ball over, with a no-ball only adding to Parameswaran's woes.

Incredibly, Gayle is responsible for three of the top four most-expensive overs in IPL history; he also punished Ravi Bopara (33 runs) and Rahul Sharma (31) for record totals in 2010 and 2012 respectively.
