Is this the greatest review of all time?

Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell persuade their captain to take a leap of faith that paid ultimate dividends

Wicketkeeper Brad Haddin didn’t hear it.

First slip Michael Clarke didn’t hear it.

Umpire Kumar Dharmasena didn’t hear it.

But Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell were adamant they heard Ajinkya Rahane feather an edge off Mitchell Starc through to the keeper.

Quick Single: Australia headed to World Cup final

And after convincing skipper Clarke, the pair can take credit for the greatest review of all-time in Australia’s 95-run win over India in the second World Cup semi-final at the SCG.

Following a hostile spell of fast bowling by Mitchell Johnson that revived memories of Pakistan’s Wahab Riaz last week, Rahane and captain MS Dhoni rebuilt India’s innings after it slumped to 4-108 in the 23rd over.

Smith century steers Australia to World Cup final

The pair combined for 70 before Rahane looked to have played and missed at a Starc delivery angling across the right-hander, only for Smith and Maxwell to steam in and express their opinion to captain and keeper.

Reluctant at first, Clarke was convinced by the enthusiastic pleading of his two young superstars and raised fist to forearm to review the decision.

With Starc’s front foot was found to be behind the bowling crease, Real Time Snicko found a tremor as the ball passed the outside edge of the batsman’s blade.

After just a few looks by Erasmus, the South African instructed his on-field colleague to reverse the decision and give Rahane out - much to the delight of the Australian fans and the persuasive duo.

That wicket proved critical as Australia ran through the remaining Indian wickets and booked a place in Sunday’s World Cup final against New Zealand in Melbourne.
