Cummins returns for Scotland clash

Doherty misses out as Australia opt for an extra quick in favourable conditions in Hobart

Pat Cummins will replace Xavier Doherty in the only change to the Australian XI for the side's last Cricket World Cup pool match.

But skipper Michael Clarke said it would be "silly" to think the team would remain unchanged moving into the finals.

Spinner Doherty was brought into the team for their 64-run victory over Sri Lanka at the SCG on Sunday.

But selectors have instead named paceman Cummins for Saturday's Bellerive Oval fixture.

Cummins has been given the nod over Josh Hazlewood and Clarke was asked how the decision was reached.

"They've both performed really well with their opportunities, both bowling as well as I've seen, and both offer the team different strengths," the skipper told reporters in Hobart on Friday.

"It's probably a question for the selectors."

Australia's batting line-up will also undergo a reshuffle on Saturday.

"I think the order will be a little bit different as well to try and give guys a hit ahead of our quarter-final," Clarke said.

Along with Shane Watson and James Faulkner, Clarke said he needed to spend some more time at the crease.

But there were no clues as to the order, which last match saw Steve Smith at No.3 and Shane Watson listed at No.5 but dropped a place during the game to make way for Glenn Maxwell.

Australia are clear favourites to beat Scotland ahead of their March 20 quarter-final at Adelaide Oval, against the winners of Pakistan and Ireland.

Clarke said Saturday's XI was no indication of Australia's finals team.

"I like the fact the selectors are picking players for conditions and opposition," Clarke said.

"I think we'd be silly to pick our team today for the World Cup quarter-final.

"We don't know what we're going to get in Adelaide, we don't know what the wicket will be like, we still don't know who we will be playing against.

"I think we will assess that next week or in a few days."

Australia XI: Aaron Finch, David Warner, Steve Smith, Michael Clarke (c), Glenn Maxwell, Shane Watson, James Faulkner, Brad Haddin, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins.
