Warner out of New Zealand ODI series

Aaron Finch has been recalled to Australia's one-day international squad, with vice-captain David Warner rested from the Qantas Tour of New Zealand.

Australia's Test players in the ODI squad will depart for the India tour direct from New Zealand, and selectors have moved to give Warner a break from white-ball cricket beforehand.

Usman Khawaja has also been prioritised for Test cricket and will head to Dubai early, with Shaun Marsh recalled to the one-day side. It means Australia is likely to open the Chapple-Hadlee series with Finch and Marsh as the opening batters.

Interim National Selector Trevor Hohns said Warner would link up with his Test-playing teammates at the team's Dubai training camp.

"David has had a very big summer and will benefit from a break in cricket, both mentally and physically," Hohns said.

"He will travel to Dubai in the second group of departures to coincide with those players arriving from the one-day series in New Zealand.

"This gives Aaron an opportunity to return to the side. His form in the Big Bash League has been very good and he has earnt his recall."

Khawaja will lead an eight-man advance party of Australia's Test squad members not involved in the one-day series to Dubai on January 30. The group will include opener Matt Renshaw, spinners Ashton Agar, Steve O'Keefe, Nathan Lyon and the uncapped leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson, plus seamers Mitchell Marsh and Jackson Bird.

Warner will follow on February 5 and his arrival in the Middle East will coincide with the players and staff that will fly direct from New Zealand.

Steve Smith, Peter Handscomb, Josh Hazlewood, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc and Matthew Wade will be the players heading to the Dubai training camp after the Chappell-Hadlee series.

Marcus Stoinis has been released to play in Tuesday night's KFC Big Bash League semi-final at the WACA where his Melbourne Stars face a Perth Scorchers side that will include Shaun Marsh. The winner will advance to the BBL|06 Final on January 28, but neither player wll be available. 

Meanwhile, towering Queensland quick Billy Stanlake will not travel to Adelaide with the current squad to face Pakistan on Australia Day, and will instead join the recalled batsmen Marsh and Finch in New Zealand.They are due to arrive a day ahead of the remainder of the squad, who fly to New Zealand from Adelaide after the fifth VB ODI against Pakistan.

The absence of Warner will no doubt be welcomed by the Black Caps and their supporters after the left-handed opener flayed them for centuries in Canberra and Melbourne in the previous Chappell-Hadlee series in early December.

"Australia have shown how dangerous they are, but with the Chappell-Hadlee trophy on the line at home, we know we have an exciting opportunity," said Black Caps selector Gavin Larsen.

Warner hit 119 from 115 balls in the nation's capital en route to a 116-run Australia victory, and backed that up with 156 from 128 balls at the MCG in a 117-run win as the Aussies swept the series 3-0.

The two sides open the new series on January 30 at Eden Park, where they played out a memorable World Cup group stage epic in 2015. The second match will be in Napier on February 2 and the third game in Hamilton on February 5.

New Zealand named their squad over the weekend, with uncapped wicketkeeper Tom Blundell in line to make his one-day international debut.

Blundell faces competition to take the gloves, with regular opening bat Tom Latham to trial wicketkeeping in a domestic one-dayer.

The Black Caps have been forced into the change with regular wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi one of several players ruled out by injury, with the Black Caps also missing Adam Milne, Mitchell McClenaghan, Doug Bracewell and Ben Wheeler. Powerful allrounder Corey Anderson was considered as a batsman only, and did not make the cut.
