Aussies back to business in Nottingham

Tourists return to the training paddock as they prepare for do-or-die fourth Ashes Test

Australia dusted themselves off from their eight-wicket thrashing in Birmingham to regroup and refocus their efforts toward the fourth Test at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

The tourists travelled to Nottingham on Sunday before returning to the training paddock on Monday in a full three-hour practice.

But before the players took to the field, the 16-man squad and entire Bupa Support Staff were subjected to a gruelling gym session that left several members of the non- playing group a little worse for wear.

Decision-making let us down: Di Venuto

Under-fire skipper Michael Clarke was the first and last player to leave the Trent Bridge nets, batting for approximately two hours against all varieties of spin and fast bowling including members of his own pace attack minus one notable omission.

Quick Single: Clarke famine can end with feast

Mitchell Johnson participated in the rigorous fielding drills to begin the session, but was rested from bowling three days out from the opening day of the must-win match.

Johnson is expected to bowl tomorrow in order to be fresh and ready for another Ashes assault a week after claiming his 300th Test wicket.

"When he's got his tail up there's not many that are more ferocious, or bowl as fast," Australia wicketkeeper Peter Nevill said on keeping to slinging southpaw.

"Mitchell Johnson in full flight is just at a different level to anything I've seen."

The twists and turns of the 2015 Ashes

After a series with the bat that’s produced 73 runs in six innings, Adam Voges’ position at No.5 has come under scrutiny, and if selectors decide to drop the veteran Western Australian, his state teammate Shaun Marsh is the likely replacement.

The pair shared a net to begin batting practice today, with both men enjoying an extended stay at the crease in perfect weather in Nottingham.

Quick Single: Cook and Lyth struggling: Lehmann

While it’s unknown if Australia’s selectors will alter the XI that hammered England by 405 runs only two Tests ago at Lord’s, England have been forced into one change with spearhead James Anderson ruled out of the fourth Test with a side strain injury.

Anderson’s expected replacement Mark Wood missed the third Test with an ankle complaint and today underwent a fitness Test with bowling coach Ottis Gibson and England’s medical staff watching on.

Quick Single: The man who Wood replace Anderson

Both sides will train at Trent Bridge today (Tuesday) as Australia look to become only the second team in history to come from 2-1 down to win the Ashes.

The last side that achieved the feat was in 1936-37 with a bloke by the name of Don Bradman captaining the side.
