Caribbean supremacy on the line in final

Australia and the West Indies square off in the tri-series final in Barbaos on Monday morning

A wounded West Indies side say they can defy the odds once again by toppling World Cup winners and world No.1 Australia in the ODI tri-series final in Barbados on Monday morning (3am AEST, Fox Sports 4).

The Windies will take on an Australian side that is set to be boosted by the return of leg-spinner Adam Zampa, with captain Steve Smith all but confirming the 24-year-old will play having been left out of the previous two matches.

Quick Single: Zampa set for recall

The tournament hosts stormed into the series decider with a 100-run thrashing of South Africa on Saturday, their second win of the series against the third-ranked Proteas.

The current world No.8 also toppled Australia in St Kitts and fell just short of beating the Aussies again in Barbados earlier this week, results that were widely unexpected at the start of the series.

Proteas collapse as Windies reach final

Captain Jason Holder, one of three Windies players under an injury cloud going into the final, wants his young team to go one step further.

"I'm extremely proud. Really, really proud of the guys," he said.

Quick Single: History gives Aussies the edge

"A lot of guys are struggling with some niggles and it's just good to see the guys fight through it.

"It's a big plus for the team and West Indies cricket that we've shown we can compete with against good sides.

"But nobody goes to a final to lose. We're going to compete and try to win the final."

Gabriel will be key for us in final: Holder

Smith gave a strong indication that Zampa would come into Australia’s XI, with paceman Scott Boland the man most likely to sit out, on a Kensington Oval surface that has taken more spin the tourists expected.

"I'd say he's a pretty good chance tomorrow," Smith said of the leg-spinner, adding the final XI would be announced at the toss.

"We'll wait and see when we look at the wicket tomorrow, but I dare say he's a good chance.

"We thought the wicket the other day wasn't going to spin much. It turned out the wicket spun a bit more than anticipated so that brings Adam Zampa back into the fold."

Quick Single: High-stakes final promises fireworks

Holder, paceman Shannon Gabriel and allrounder Kieron Pollard all have what the Windies skipper described as "niggling injuries", but all three are expected to play.

The skipper came into the match under a cloud due to a hamstring strain, but bowled 10 overs straight from the Joel Garner End of Kensington Oval as Gabriel – playing just his second ODI – helped rip through the Proteas top order.

Gabriel later left the field with a slight groin problem while Pollard has been carrying a hand injury throughout the tournament.

"I don't think it's anything too serious. We'll just monitor it over the next day," Holder said of Gabriel's injury.

"(My hamstring is) a bit sore, a bit tight, but that's as expected.

"I thought this game was crucial and it was important to do my best to get on the park. I was really pleased that I was able to pull through and get through it.

"We've got a few niggling injuries in the camp so it's important tomorrow that we get some rest and come back Sunday.

"I'll do whatever it takes to get on the park and perform for the team.

"I think it's important now that we've come this far so there's no turning back right now. It's a situation where we've just got to give it our all."

Smith said he'd been impressed by the form of Gabriel, an aggressive paceman capable of bowling in the mid 140kph, while he also praised the home side's determination with the bat.

Smith keeping ace up sleeve for final

The Windies posted scores of more than 280 in their two matches in Barbados despite being reduced to 3-31 and 4-21 early in their innings.

"I thought the West Indies scrapped really well (against South Africa), again," Smith said.

"They scrapped incredibly well to get to that score and it's always going to be tough to chase and the bowlers did the job again.

"I thought Gabriel was very good, he started well, bowled good pace consistently and put the batters under pressure and took early wickets.

"It looked like a pretty polished performance from them.

Mitch Starc making net gains in Barbados

"They've been up for the challenge in this series. They're playing at home in their own backyard, which always helps any team.

"They're pretty dangerous in these conditions, so it'd be good to knock them off tomorrow."

Neither team trained on the day before the match, ensuring both sides will be fresh for a game that is expected to be played in fine conditions.
