CA launches new Women’s Ashes campaign

A new take on a classic refrain is calling on Australians to get behind their world No.1 ranked team in the Commonwealth Bank Women's Ashes

“Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust. If Perry don’t get you, Jonassen must.”

One month out from the start of the Commonwealth Bank Women’s Ashes, a new advertising campaign from Cricket Australia is aiming to bring the Australian team into the hearts and minds of the public like never before.

Australia will be attempting to retain the prized Ashes when they take on England in the multi-format series, which features three ODIs, one day-night Test and three T20s across Brisbane, Coffs Harbour, Sydney and Canberra.

The campaign’s TV commercial features a new take on the famous “Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust, if Lillee don’t get you, Thommo must” refrain.

The revised poem is recited by a young Australian and features allrounder Ellyse Perry, spinner Jess Jonassen, seamer Megan Schutt, vice-captain Alex Blackwell, wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy and newly named stand-in captain Rachael Haynes in a passionate call to arms.

What is the Women's Ashes?

Cricket Australia’s General Manager, Events & Leagues, Anthony Everard said the campaign aimed to inspire all Australians to throw their support behind the No.1 ranked team.

“Our Australian Women’s Cricket team are the best in the world, featuring some of the most talented players to have ever played the game, and we are proud of this campaign that seeks to celebrate the team and encourage Australia to get behind our players ahead of the Commonwealth Bank Women’s Ashes Series,” Everard said.

“The chant which has inspired our campaign immediately evokes memories of incredible past Ashes series, and the fierce rivalry between Australia and England ensures an Ashes series is always hard fought and highly entertaining.

“The upcoming Commonwealth Bank Women’s Ashes Series gives the Australian public a chance to see the skill, athleticism, and passion of the team for themselves and we hope as many people as possible will take up this opportunity.

“We’ve seen how the public are getting behind women’s sport in Australia, most recently with the amazing crowds who turned out to support the Matildas, which is fantastic for not just women’s sport but the Australian sporting landscape in general.

“We want to keep growing that support by connecting more fans to our Australian Women’s Cricket team through this new campaign.”

The Ashes will be played at boutique grounds along the east coast, offering fans the chance to get up close and personal with the world’s best players.

The action begins with an ODI at Brisbane’s AB Field on October 22, followed by two one-dayers at Coffs Stadium.

The first-ever Ashes day-night Test will be played at North Sydney Oval from November 9-12, with the ground to also host a T20I alongside Canberra’s Manuka Stadium.
