Relaxed Aussies enjoy a break

Table-topping team set to enjoy a few days off and see the sights of Guyana before their final group match on the weekend

A three-day break between World T20 matches couldn’t have come at a better time for Australia, spearhead Megan Schutt says.

Australia became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals on Tuesday thanks to a 33-run win over fierce rivals New Zealand at Guyana’s Providence Stadium.

Their fourth and final Group B game against India isn’t until Saturday, leaving the Australians time to refresh mentally and physically before the business end of the tournament.

"I think a break in a tournament like this is always kind of crucial to rest the brain from cricket, really," Schutt said.

"And I think we're really good at doing that now, really being aware of when we need to take time off. So it couldn't have come at a better time."

The Australian squad was in high spirits on Wednesday morning when they had a chance to meet local Georgetown high school students as part of an International Cricket Council clinic.

After enjoying a series of dance performances and going head-to-head with the students on the field, Australia allrounder Sophie Molineux commandeered the DJ set-up, much to the delight of her teammates and the local students.

A group of the Australian players will travel to Guyana’s number one landmark on Thursday, the Kaieteur Falls – the world’s tallest single-drop waterfall.

Others will hit the golf course, or simply enjoy some rest and relaxation by the pool.

"(The mood in the camp) is pretty low key," allrounder Delissa Kimmince said on Wednesday.

"We still know there’s a job at hand but it was nice to get the win over New Zealand last night and it was probably the good test we needed at this stage of the tournament as well.

"We’ve got a down day tomorrow to get away from it a bit and explore where we are, we come to these unique parts of the world and don’t usually get too much time to go and have a look so tomorrow will be a good day to rest from cricket and see what’s around."

But from there it’ll be all systems go for Australia, who will fly to Antigua following Saturday’s match against India to prepare for a semi-final on November 22.

"Every game now we’ve got to play it like it’s a final," Kimmince said. "If you want to win it you’ve got to play like it is your last game.

"We’ve been trying to use the motto throughout the series that 'tomorrow’s overrated' so you’ve just got to focus on what we have to do today and not get ahead of ourselves."
