Coaches hit the books in Big Apple

Eight coaching staff have headed to the United States as part of a Cricket Australia study tour

Eight of Australia's up-and-coming coaches are currently exploring the United States as part of a coaching study tour.

On the back of the Qantas Tour of the West Indies where Australia claimed the tri-series, the coaching staff detoured north to New York for a week-long look at some of the world's biggest sporting organisations.

Interim coach Justin Langer was joined by Adam Griffith, Phil Jacques, Graeme Hick, David Hussey, Ryan Harris, Matthew Mott and Greg Blewett, with Brad Hodge and Michael Hussey unavailable due to Carribean Premier League commitments.

The coaches were selected on the basis of "their capability to be a future Australian head coach, specialist coach, Big Bash League coach and their learning potential".

Cricket Australia's Executive General Manager Team Performance Pat Howard said it was important for Australian cricket to invest in the professional development of current elite coaches as well as those coaches coming through the pathway system.

"All those selected for this tour are currently working across Australian cricket and have been identified as future national coaches," Howard said.

"It's about seeing what works well in other elite environments. This trip provides a great opportunity to look outside the box and expand our thinking in a number of areas."

The coaches along with Cricket Australia Team Performance staff attended Major League Soccer (MLS) headquarters, a league that has franchises owned by the organization, much like the KFC Big Bash League (BBL).

The group also ventured to NFL headquarters as well as taking in a New York Yankees game in the Big Apple.

The study tour will conclude this week with visits to ESPN, Facebook, Stanford, Google and the San Francisco Giants.
