Bailey keeps sense of humour over ban

Suspended batsman expected to take on a coaching role for clash against England

If suspended Australian one-day skipper George Bailey is annoyed about missing the opportunity to play England in front of his home crowd, he's not letting on.

The Tasmanian will be forced to sit-out tomorrow's Carlton Mid ODI Tri-Series match at Blundstone Arena as a penalty for Australia's slow over-rate against India on Sunday, which was his second offence in 12 months.

So how will Bailey spend Friday?

"Maybe a few rounds of golf," he said during a function in Hobart.

"Crosswords, maybe a few crosswords ... and I'm guessing there's a toasted-sandwich maker here somewhere."

Jokes aside, Bailey said he expected to be handed some form of coaching responsibility as he watches on from the newly named Ponting Stand.

Bailey attended Wednesday's official opening of Bellerive Oval's Western Stand, when it was announced it would be named after former Australian captain and fellow Tasmanian, Ricky Ponting.

The neighbouring and existing Southern Stand has been named after batting great David Boon.

Earlier, Australian keeper-batsman Brad Haddin voiced his disappointment Bailey would miss Friday's match.

Quick single: Opening options aplenty for Aussies

"I'm shattered for him," Haddin told reporters.

"One of the great things about playing for Australia is coming back and playing in front of your home crowd."

Steven Smith will stand-in as captain on Friday.
