Dhaka outfield rated ‘poor’
The outfield of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium has been rated ‘poor’ by the International Cricket Council following Bangladesh’s historic Test victory over Australia last month.
ICC Match Referee Jeff Crowe expressed concern over the quality of the outfield that hosted the clash on August 27-30 and subsequently handed down his report.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board now has 14 days to provide a response that will be reviewed by match referee Ranjan Madugalle and the ICC’s General Manager of Cricket, Geoff Allardice.
The outfield at Dhaka had a noticeably sandy consistency and Australia players tended to avoid diving for balls during the match.
Despite the condition of the outfield at the Dhaka venue, the Test will long be remembered for the home side’s first-ever triumph over Australia in the game’s longest format.
Superstar allrounder Shakib Al Hasan was named Player of the Match as he collected 10 wickets to go along with his first-innings knock of 84, while Australia opener David Warner compiled what is arguably his finest hundred with 112 in the ultimately unsuccessful run chase.
