Bangladesh, Pakistan 50-50 for second Test

Skippers agree there is no clear favourite for second and final Test in Mirpur

Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim says there is no clear favourite in his team’s second and final Test against Pakistan, which begins today in Mirpur.

The first Test ended in a draw after a determined fightback from the hosts, who scored 6-555 in the second innings to hold Pakistan out for a draw.

Mushfiqur said he expected Pakistan to attempt to play attacking cricket to ensure a result after the drawn match.

“From our perspective, keeping them winless throughout the series will be the primary target,” he said.

“Pakistan are a very dangerous side, they are world class both in batting and bowling.

“It is a 50-50 situation with no clear favourites. The team that will play better will win.”

Pakistan captain Mis-ul-Haq agreed.

"It's even-stevens at the moment,” Misbah said.

“The way Bangladesh adjusted and performed in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand showed they had improved as a side and we expected it to be tough because they are always good at home conditions.

“We have to do the basics right and go for a win in the second Test.”

Bangladesh batsman Tamim Iqbal, who scored a double century in the first Test, had been under an injury cloud after being struck on the foot by Junaid Khan, but Mushfiqur said the opener was fit to play.

“Tamim has been in really good form, and his injury is not serious enough for him not to play, there might be some niggles, but he is mentally prepared to play with those,” he said.

Pace bowler Rubel Hossain has been ruled out with a side strain, with seamer Abul Hasan was called up to replace him in the Bangladesh squad for the second Test.
