Thunder lock in trio for BBL|06

Sydney Thunder have confirmed the re-signing of KFC Big Bash League title winners Chris Green, Clint McKay and Aiden Blizzard for the next two seasons.

The trio will now remain with the Thunder Nation until the end of BBL|07.

Director of Cricket Mike Hussey said the club was keen to ensure the nucleus of last year’s winning squad was retained, as they hunt back-to-back titles.

"Aiden is one of the most experienced T20 batsman in the country, and we believe he will play an important role in the upcoming season,” Hussey said.

"Chris has come on leaps and bounds over the last two season.

"He is a great example of how young players can really make a name for themselves in the Big Bash."

"Clint’s arrival from the Melbourne Stars last year was a real coup for the club, his haul of 18-wickets was a major factor in us winning the competition."

McKay, the Thunder's leading wicket taker last summer, said he was looking forward to his second season with the club.

"There’s a great culture at the Thunder, on and off the field," McKay said.

"I loved every minute of last season but beating the Stars at the MCG to lift the trophy is a day I’ll never forget.

"We’ve had a few retirements but it’s still a very talented squad, with some very exciting young players coming through."

The club has yet to confirm its two internationals for BBL|06, although their title defence could be bolstered by the return of two international superstars this summer.

While the reigning BBL champions are tight-lipped on who exactly will fill their two overseas slots this summer, Thunder general manager Nick Cummins has confirmed on social media that both spots had been filled for BBL|06.

The Thunder will begin their title defence with a local derby against the Sydney Sixers on December 20 at Spotless Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Thunder have fought off five other franchises to complete the historic signing of India vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur for their Women's Big Bash League title defence this summer.

Kaur is the first Indian, male or female, to sign a Big Bash League contract and is looking forward to taking part in what she says is the world’s premier women’s competition.
